The top 3 causes of death in Nigeria are: Malaria 20%, Lower Respiratory Infections 19% and HIV 9%

Nigeria accounts for about 10% of the world's HIV/AIDS buden. With about 3 million of her citizens still being sero-positive and a prevalence rate of about 3%, Nigeria still has a very high rate of HIV infection in Africa. The program is to help reduce the rate of infection and enable everyone know his/her status. Also the program is to help everyone know his/her general health status thereby promote healthy lifestyle and effect attitudinal changes.

Nigeria Campaign

The Nigeria Program launched in 2012 and a primary partner for the monitoring and evaluation is the ZIMI Good Health Initiative.

Additional partners at site level include US Government Agencies such as PEPFAR, USAID, CDC, Society for Family Health, local non-governmental organizations, and over 200 Rotary and Rotaract Clubs

The 2020 Campaign in Nigeria delayed to 2021 - days to be confirmed

The planning for the 2020 program just started and the campaign process has been truncated somehow by the COVID-19 situation. The following have been done:

  • Circulation of the 2019 RFHD Report to all DG, DGE, DRFC of all districts in Nigeria
  • Information to the District Governors and 2020-2021 DGs on proposed date of the 2020 RFHD
  • RFHD updates at the PETS in some districts
  • RFHA branded posts on various Rotary WhatsApp platforms advising on COVID-19 prevention guidelines
